The harvest has failed. The torches are ready, and the congregation has gathered beneath an enormous figure of woven branches. Tonight, the gods demand an offering. Unfortunately, nobody has thought to tell you who it might be.
๐ Introduction
The Wicker Man is a functional strength and conditioning workout combining three demanding circuits with a final challenge determined by sacrifice. In the group version, participants vote to select one unfortunate volunteer for a gruelling loaded-strength finale, while the remaining members complete a lighter bodyweight circuit. Solo participants face the sacrifice themselves.
The ancient harvest has been gathered, but the villagers insist that one final offering must be made. The fires are prepared, the congregation is assembled, and everyone seems remarkably pleased to see you.
๐พ The Legend of the Wicker Man
In the first century BC, Julius Caesar recorded one of the most disturbing accounts of ancient Celtic religious practices. Writing about the peoples of Gaul, he described enormous human-shaped structures constructed from woven branches, their hollow frames filled with living captives before being set ablaze as offerings to the gods.
According to Caesar, the Druids oversaw these sacrifices, believing that only the offering of one human life could appease the gods and secure their favour. Condemned criminals were supposedly preferred, but when suitable victims were unavailable, even the innocent might be selected.
Whether such terrifying rituals actually took place remains a matter of historical debate. Caesar was, after all, a Roman conqueror describing the customs of his enemies, and no conclusive archaeological evidence has established that giant wicker effigies were ever used for human sacrifice. Nevertheless, the possibility of such ceremonies has haunted the popular imagination for centuries.
The Wicker Man originates in ancient accounts of Celtic ritual sacrifice, notably those of Julius Caesar, who described giant wicker effigies filled with human offerings and set ablaze. Though historically disputed, the legend found renewed notoriety through the 1973 British folk-horror classic The Wicker Man.
The legend found renewed life in the celebrated 1973 folk-horror film The Wicker Man, in which an isolated Scottish island community practises an unsettling form of pagan worship. Behind the villagers’ cheerful songs, elaborate festivities and apparent hospitality lies a far darker purpose: a human sacrifice intended to restore the island’s failing harvest.
It is this disturbing combination of religious fervour, communal obedience and ritual sacrifice that makes the Wicker Man so unsettling. The victim need not be pursued by monsters or dragged away by supernatural forces. Sometimes, an entire community can calmly agree that one unfortunate individual must suffer for the benefit of everyone else.
And when the congregation has made its decision, there is precious little room for appeal.
๐ฝ The Harvest Demands a Sacrifice
Tonight, you have joined a congregation whose understanding of teamwork is rather unconventional.
Three punishing circuits await, during which every participant must endure the same trials. But when the final ritual approaches, the congregation will gather to decide who must make the ultimate sacrifice.
A secret ballot will determine the unfortunate soul condemned to face the Burning Man, while the remaining faithful enjoy a considerably less demanding conclusion to their evening.
Naturally, everyone will insist that the decision is nothing personal.
The gods, however, must be appeased.
๐ Rules of Engagement

๐ฏ๏ธ The Ritual: Everyone completes the first three circuits before the group selects a Sacrifice for the final ordeal.
